Animated Explainers: Make Your Business’ Videos More Engaging
It isn’t only for kids. Animated explainer videos are a great way to make a technical or fact-heavy how-to message a bit more interesting. While the above example is for a fictitious company, it shows one potential style of animation that is a great option for many projects. This style can work for messages in tech, agriculture, medical, and other industries.
Animated Explainers: When They’re a Good Choice
Animated explainers are great for how-to videos, especially those where the steps to a process aren’t easily filmed. In general, any potentially dry messaging is a good candidate for animation. From training employees to educating customers, animation can take your video from snooze to super.
Additionally, animations can be particularly eye-catching for advertising and messaging on social media channels. Bold and bright chunky colors stand out in “The Endless Scroll” we all find ourselves in across LinkedIn, Meta, Instagram and others. Of course it’s not the only way to stand out, but animation is a great option!
Animation can also bring a touch of whimsy and lightheartedness to a potentially sensitive or awkward subject. Patient medical how-to’s are a great example in this category. On the other hand, some sensitive messages, such as announcements to employees, are best with a real, filmed face for sincerity. We’d be happy to help you weigh your options in those scenarios.
Big Picture: Animated, Motion Graphics, Live Action, or…?
There are a world of style options for corporate, marketing, and other business videos. There are great “talking head” videos with supplementary imagery (b-roll) to illustrate talking points. Many corporate videos are a mixture of stock footage and motion graphics, or simply motion graphics, period. Each style of video has a place.
While timeline and budget are factors to consider, the best style choice still depends on the message, platform, and audience. In fact, we’ve even created videos remotely filming people on Zoom, post-Covid. While we would have cringed at remote webcam filming several years ago, today that can be a great, effective option! All that to say…
The Video Multiverse Comes Together
No video is limited to a single video category. Combining formats–when appropriate–into a single video can turn a long, complex, and potentially boring message into something enjoyable to watch. Perhaps your “Talking Head” explainer could use some animation segments to illustrate specific points. Or perhaps you simply need motion graphics to overlay a video clip. In many situations, combining video formats can add that extra bit of interest to keep your audience engaged.
